GAP’s Protected Areas Database of the U.S. (PAD-US) was featured in the Department of Interior’s Strategic Plan for 2011-2016. GAP maps and data play a role in helping the Department of Interior meet its 4th mission area, which is “to provide a scientific foundation for decision making.” Specifically, the Protected Areas map is featured as pat of the DOI’s goal statement, “to Develop a Comprehensive Science Framework for Understanding the Earth.”
