Species Web Map Services

Species habitat maps are available in an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Map Service (WMS).

Species Habitat Maps

Each species’ habitat map is a layer in this WMS, referenced by the 6-digit species code.

Example:

To get the habitat map for the Bald Eagle (species code bBAEAx) the request would be:

https://www.sciencebase.gov/geoserver/CONUS_HabMap_2001v1/wms?service=WMS&request=GetMap&version=1.1.1&format=image/png&transparent=true&layers=bBAEAx&width=1280&height=648&srs=EPSG:3857&bbox=-14255035,2647679,-7256275,6744960

More information about this service and the species codes are available at from USGS ScienceBase:

Species Range Maps

All species’ range maps are available in one layer or broken out by taxa.

Capabilities URLs:

Individual species can be queried using the 6-digit species code (SppCode).
